About The Author

Meet J. Henry Tate

“Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate”
is my first published novel. However, I have been published locally since college.

In the mid-1980s, I returned to college to obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. One day my English Lit Instructor asked me to stay after class. I was ready for the “You have to do better” speech. Instead, she asked me to write for the college newspaper.

“What!” I said, “I am confused. Whenever you return my graded papers, they all look like you had cut your wrist and bled on them. What she said next started my writing career. She laughed and said, “John, all of your issues are technical; however, your ability to put words together is a true gift.”

I wrote for the college newspaper, “Vox Populi,” for the rest of the school year. After college, I had stories published in local community papers such as “Speakin’ Out News,” “Valley News,” “Valley Informer,” and area Magazines, “Old Huntsville,” and “Old Morgan County.”

Currently, I am a contributing writer for Old Huntsville Magazine, Including several cover stories.

In the words of the publisher, according to Cathey:
“John Tate is a storyteller first and foremost. He was born to be a writer. He has that rare ability to take facts and create a compelling story that the reader will not forget. The story pulls you in, and you have to read it from beginning to end. He is able, in his interviews with people, to get to the heart of their story, and there is always a message at the end. John is a perceptive, patient and personable writer who uses humor and honesty to draw out the story. These are traits that are rare and to have them all in one writer is a treasure.”

This adventure begins when Army Captain John Terry hires P.I. Jack Campbell to investigate his wife, an Air Force Captain. However, After Army Captain John Terry abruptly calls to drop the case, a month later, Daniel, Jack’s boss and best friend, is shot. At the hospital, Jack and Becky, Daniel’s wife, meet Mary Rogers from the State Department, leading them to suspect that the Terrys’ case may be connected to Daniel’s shooting.

who should play Jack Campbell.

“For an actor in his thirties who can play Jack with a more subtle approach, consider John David Washington. He has showcased his range and depth in roles such as BlacKkKlansman and Tenet. Washington’s ability to bring nuance and intensity to his characters makes him a great fit for a role requiring a strong yet understated presence.”

What Readers Are Saying

"Just finished this book written by my friend J. Henry Tate. I had the privilege of reading his first drafts as he was writing them, so I was already familiar with the story which is based on events in his own life, yet reading the final, published version I still found myself very much engaged in the story to the last page. It was an enjoyable and satisfying book!! Well done John, well done! Available on Amazon."

John B. Reader

John B. Reader

"Hi John, I got your book just a couple of days ago and started reading that night. I just wanted to tell you it’s so good, the back story is amazing, and the way you build the characters I feel like I know them. Jack is my favorite so far. I love the action and the flow. I was afraid that I would have to go back and re-read sections but it’s such a good smooth read and you don’t want to put it down for the night! This will be a gift I give several of my favorite readers and I know I will be wanting to read your 2nd book when I get to the end! (Have you started on a 2nd book yet?) So proud of you."

“Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate is an incredibly captivating read. The book will keep you engaged and guessing until the very last page. I thought I had figured out the identity of the spy, but I was in for a complete surprise. Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster as one of your beloved characters faces danger. The Private Investigator's journey is both thrilling and at times humorous, making him a character you'll truly root for. The story's unexpected twists and turns will have you constantly wondering, "Who's next?" This is a must-read for anyone who loves a Thriller.”

Barbara B. Reader

Judy S. Reader

“Personally as a reader of this type of book(action, adventure, true detective, intrigue); from such writers as Stuart Woods, John Sanford, and Sue Grafton. I find Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate to be exciting and gripping (a page-turner). I have been waiting with anticipation for the final draft and will read it to the conclusion.”

Pastor Waymond S Reader

“I found the storyline holds together quite well. You have some experience of the military and the workings of the senior levels of government. My background is from active-duty Air Force (6 years), plus another 24 in the Department of Defense. This includes some time working in a military intelligence unit, so I have some basic knowledge of how things work there as well. It gives me an unusual level of knowledge the average editor might not have. All this to say, good job. I like the characters, … Your story is well thought out; it fits together without seeming forced, as so many spy thrillers seem to suffer from.”

“I've completed my review and determined that this manuscript is ready to be passed back to the publisher for the next step. I have to say this is a very well-informed piece of work, and I found it engaging and satisfying on many levels. Building right to the very end, the intensity is well-measured and keeps the reader's interest on every page. It's not easy to make that happen; you are honing your craft, and I look forward to future work. On a personal note, I truly enjoyed working with this book, and I am sorry it took so long to get it to you. Sometimes working as an editor is an all-or-nothing pursuit. No work, and then a stack of work all at once.”
